Angina Flashcards
How long does GTN spray work for?
30 mins
Name a long acting Nitrate
Isosorbide Mononitrate
How do Nitrates work?
NO is a vasodilator as muscle relaxes reducing end diastolic volume meaning that walls are less distended, reducing oxygen demand and therefore pain
How to BBs work to relieve angina?
Decrease rate and force of contractions meaning that increased coronary artery perfusion between heart beats.
What are BBs used for in angina?
Prophylaxis
Why are CCBs used instead of BBs?
When BBs contraindicated ie vasospastic asthma
Name 2 CCBs
Amlodipine
Nifedipine
What are antiplatelet drugs used for in angina?
Erosion of plaques to reduce MI risk
What is the mechanism of antiplatelet drugs and name one in each category?
GPIIb/IIIa blockade- Abciximab COX Inhibitor- Aspirin ADP receptor- Clopidogrel Thomboxane Inhibitor- Dipyridamole Heparin- binds to Antithrombin III
