the lock and key model (a substrate goes into an enzyme’s active site. the enzyme then catalyzes the reaction and releases the product.

what will happen if an enzyme is in a place that is too hot, cold, acidic, or alkaline?

the enzyme will get denatured/deformed, and the substrate will not fit
