Cell structure (animal and plant cells) Flashcards
What are the organelles in an animal cell?
There are:
Cell membrane/ Cell surface membrane
Nucleus/ Control center of the cell
Cytoplasm/ Sloppy jelly
Ribosomes/ Protein maker
Mitochondria/ Power house
Cell membrane
Boundary between the inside and the outside of the cell, it is partially and selectively permeable which means it can control some of what comes in and out of the cell.
Nucleus
Contains the genetic information of the cell, the DNA which controls which proteins the cell can make.
Cytoplasm
The chemical/ metabolic reactions all happen here.
Ribosomes
They make proteins through protein synthesis, using the instructions found in the nucleus.
Mitochondria
It releases energy for the cell from the food and turns it into ATP.
What organelles are in a plant cell?
There are:
Cell membrane/ Cell surface membrane
Nucleus/ Control center of the cell
Cytoplasm/ Sloppy jelly
Ribosomes/ Protein maker
Mitochondria/ Power house
Cell wall
Vacuole/ Permanent vacuole
Choroplasts/ Container for chorophyll
Cell wall
Vacuole
It is filled with water, mineral ions, ect. cell sap, it puts pressure on the cell wall forces the cytoplasm out against the cell wall and it gives structure and shape, turgid.
Choroplasts
Contains chorophyll which is a green pigment, it absorbs light energy to make food in photosynthesis.
