Endrocrine: Adrenal Cortex (Hypocortisol) Flashcards
Occurs mostly as autoimmune process
Primary Hypocortisolism/Primary adrenal Insufficiency/ ADDISON’s disease
Decrease glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids
Decreased BP, Glucose, Cortisol, Na
Increased K
Addison’s disease
Hypotension
Hyperkalemia
Hypoglycemia
Hypocortisol
ACTH Stimulation Test/ Consyntropin Stimulation (Primary Hypocortisolism)
INCREASED ACTH
DECREASED ALDOSTERONE AND CORTISOL
Most common cause of Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency
Glucocorticoids Therapy
Glucocorticoid Deficiency
Mineralocorticoid normal. NO PIGMENTATION
Normal in Cosyntropin Test; ABNORMAL Metyrapone Test
Secondary Hyporcortisolism
Laboratory Test for Secondary Hypocortisolism:
- ACTH Stimulation Test ( Decreased ACTH, Cortisol)
- Metyrapone Test (alternative confirmatory)
- Insulin Tolerance Test (Confirmatory Test)
Development of male physical characteristics in a female; EXCESS ANDROGEN PRODUCTION–> DHEAS
Virilization
Increased in 17a-hydroxyprogesterone & 11B-deoxycortisol
Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia
3B - Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase
DHEA
17a-Hydroxylase
Aldosterone
11B-hydroxylase
11-DOC
