Presnetation of ESRD?

A
  • Crepitations due to pulmonary oedema
  • Ammonia breath, metallic taste, gum ulcerations
  • Cough
  • HT, pericarditis
  • Ankle swelling/oedema
  • N/V
  • Skin: dry, itchy, purpura, yellow-grey, ecchymosis
  • Raised JVP
  • Pale conjunctiva/tongue

Investigations for end stage renal disease?

A

Monthly monitoring of:

  • Renal function
  • FBC
  • Haematinic assay
  • Bone profile
  • PTH measurement
  • Hep B, C and HIV serology every 6-12 months

A

Removal of XS fluid and waste products from blood by passing it through an artificial kidney outside body (x3 a week)
