Bulimia
is an emotional disorder in which the sufferer, follows bouts of compulsive overeating with periods of self induced vomiting or fasting. the regular vomiting has following oral effects:
Enamel erosion
often severe putting + enamel loss present on many teeth, due to acidic nature of stomach contents present in vomit; the palatal surfaces of upper anterior teeth are particularly affected
Soft tissue burns
the acidic vomits will cause a burn, reddened appearance to oropharynx region at back of the mouth.
Anorexia
psychological disorder characterised by ‘voluntary starvation’ of sufferer, induced by obsessive wish to lose with to point of becoming life-threateningly emaciated.
Anorexia
when forced to eat food, the sufferer will also self induce vomiting to avoid putting weight on + will experience same oral effects.
