What is Dysthesia?
All types of abnormal sensations- even painful ones, whether stimulus is evident or not.
What is Hypoesthesia?
Reduction of cutaneous sensation to a specific type of testing such as pressure, light touch, warm or cold stimuli
Which pathology is associated with causing a glove-and-stocking’ impairment of superficial sensation?
Vitamin B12 deficiency
What are clinical presentations of Wallenberg syndrome?
Lesion in the lateral medulla which involves :
- Pain and Temperature loss of Ipsilateral face and neck.
- Pain and Temperature loss of Comtralateral limbs and trunks.
- Ipsilateral Horner’s syndrome
- Vertigo
- Nystagmus
- Hoarseness
- Dysphagia
What sensations are lost in Guillian - Barre syndrome?
Fine touch & vibration are lost.
What sensations are lost in Alcohol neuropathy ?
Pain & Temperature ( smaller nerve fibres affected first)
Which neurons are first affected in Diffuse neuropathy?
Longest neurons
What are the clinical features of a Polyneuropathies?
- symmetrical sensory disturbance, more pronounced distally.
- usually starts on the toes, gradually spreads higher, rarely above the knee; later on the hands
