How would you treat hypoglycemia in the community setting (5)
Administer glucose: juice, soda, bread or crackles
Check fingerstick 15 mins after giving glucose
If level is still low admin more glucose
After bs is stable eat a meal or snack with a fat or protein
Simple carb is best
How should we treat hypoglycemia in the hospital setting or if pt is not able to swallow
Iv dextrose 25 - 50 ml of D50
No iv access: 1 mg IM glucagon injection
Who is prone to hypoglycemia unawareness
