then passes over the internal and external carotid arteries
anteriorly towards tongue

Motor - muscles of tongue
What are the signs and symptoms of damage to the CN12 hypoglossal nerve?
Weakness and atrophy of muscles of tongue on ipsilateral side
Tip of tongue points to ipsilateral side, pushed by other side of tongue
