Circuits & Electricity Flashcards
What is the unit of power
Watt W
What is one watt equivalent to
1J per second
What is a series circuit
Has one loop
What is a parallel circuit
Can have more than one loop
What is the current
Flow of electrons in the circuit. The more current the brighter the bulbs will be
How many cells is a battery
Two
In a series circuit, what are the bulbs like if there are more
The more bulbs, the dimmer it will look since the energy had to be spread out over the other bulbs
Why are parallel circuits better for Christmas light?
If one bulb doesn’t work the current still flows through all the other loops making them work. In a series, if one doesn’t work then the circuit isn’t complete for that loop so the whole circuit doesn’t work
Ammeter
Measures the current - amps
Fuse
If the current gets too high it can make the wire melt and cause a fire. The fuse stops the wire melting any further and breaks the circuit
Voltmeter
Measure the energy - VoLTE
In a series the current stays the
Same - it is not used up
In a parallel circuit the current ….
Splits halfway
Series - volts, current
Voltage is split, current is the same
Parallel - volts, current
Voltage is the same, current is split
