Cells Flashcards
What is respiration? (MRS GREN)
Getting energy from oxygen and glucose (food and breathing)
What is sensitivity? (MRS GREN)
Detecting our surroundings - sight, smell, touch, hearing, taste
What is reproduction? (MRS GREN)
Making more of the same living thing
What is excretion? (MRS GREN)
Getting rid of waste
What is nutrition? (MRS GREN)
Taking in and using food
What are the different parts of a microscope?
Eyepiece, focus, objective lens, stage, lamp, shoulder
What is a light microscope?
A device that uses visible light and a series of lenses to produce an enlarged image of an object
What is the total magnification?
Eyepiece Len x objective lens
What are the different parts of an animal cell?
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria
What are the different parts of a plant cell?
vacuole, nucleus, cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, chloroplast, mitochondria
What are the similarities between animal and plant cells?
Both contain nucleus, cell membrane, mitochondria and cytoplasm
What are the differences between animal and plant cells?
Plant cells have a refusal shape and animal cells have irregular shapes
What does the cytoplasm do?
Where chemical reactions happen
What does the cell membrane do?
Controls what goes in and out of the cell
What does the nucleus do?
Carries the genetic information and control what happens inside the cell
What does the mitochondria do?
Where respiration happens
What does the vacuole do?
Contains a liquid (cell sap) which keeps the cell firm
What does the cell wall do?
Made of tough substance called cellulose which supports the cell
What are the things living organisms do to survive?
Move, Respire, Sensitivity, Grow, Reproduce, Excrete, Nutrition

What do cells make
Tissues
What do tissues make
Organs
What do organs make
Systems
What is a tissue
A group of cells that carry out the same function
What is an organ
A group of tissues that work together to carry out a particular finction
What is a system
A group of organs that work together to complete a specific function
Why do our bodies produce cells
Growth, repair, reproduction
How do we get new cells
They divide into two
