Chemical test Flashcards
What must we do to a colorimiter before we take our first measurement?
- place a filter into the colorimeter
- calibrate with distilled water
What must we do to the solution before testing it with a colorimeter?
Filter out the precipitate
What is another way to test the concentration of a sugar?
Reagent strips - the different colour that the strip will turn indicates the concentration of sugar.
How do you test for non reducing sugars?
Boil sugar solution with HCl acid first. Then neutralise with alkali like NaCO3
what are the three components in biosensors?
- The molecule recognition componant (like a protien or a single strand of DNA)
- Transducer, which detects a change and causes a response (like the release on an immobalised dye or an electric current).
- display (produces a visible, qualitative, or quantitative signal)
What temperature should benedicts be heated to in the test for sugars?
Above 70°c
How to find solution of sugar without colorimeter?
compare colour of benedicts solution to standard solutions.
distance travelled by componant ÷ distance travelled by Solvent
retention value
