These burns appear wet, weeping, and erythematous, and are exquisitely painful, with blisters or sloughing epidermal remnant
PARTIALTHICKNESS BURN SECONDDEGREE BURN
skin as an organ serves many functional purposes
barrier protection against microbes, absorption and mitigation of mutagenic electromagnetic radiation, water and vapor impermeability, body thermoregulation, sensory perception, and motion-enabling elasticity balanced with sheer-resistant tensile strength
the most common mechanism of burns in the pediatric population
tend to cause a greater inflammatory response than flame burns
Scald burns
TBSA does not represent burn severity, duration of contact with electrical source is proportional to tissue destruction
Electrical burn
typically deeper and more serious than acid burns
Alkali burns
solids or powders to be removed by brushes or dusting
calcium oxide, alkali metals
Soaking dressings, 2-4 times a day
Antifungal coverage
Silver nitrate
The majority of burn patients with both deep and superficial burns will experience clinically significant pruritus during their recovery.
Regardless of severity, 90% of patients will experience pruritus during the first month after being burned
