Political Leadership
The PM decides the political direction taken by the government
National Leadership
The PM is the predominant political figure in the UK and provides national leadership at a time of crisis
Appointing the government
The PM determines the membership of his or her cabinet and government, appointing and dismissing ministers
Chairing the Cabinet
The PM chairs meetings of the cabinet, sets its agenda and steers its decisions. Holds bilateral meetings with ministers
Managing the executive
PM is responsible for the overall organisation of the government and is head of he civil service
Managing relations with Parliament
The PM makes statements to and answers questions in the HoC. Shapes government’s legislative programme
Representing the UK in international affairs
As head of government, represents the UK in the EU, international organisations and meetings with other leaders
