first major financial crisis in the United States. this led to the collapse of the american economy.
Turnpikes and canals
turnpike built a 65 mile graveled toll road to philly this boosted regional economy.
canals were used for water trandportation
Republican Motherhood
Women were having fewer children so to keep the tradition going republican motherhood was a way for women to remind their children of patriotic duty so they would grow to be fine republicans.
Slavery and the earlier revolution
because the whites’ were struggling for independence it gave the blacks a higher chance of freedom. during the revolutionary war a black preacher said that king george III came up with the bible and was going to set them free.
Manumission and Gradual Emancipation
allowed owners to free their slaves in 1782, 10000 slaves won their freedom
Southern Defense for Slavery
In the south many owners feared they would lose their slaves so they petitioned against the manumission act. Debate ended in 1800 when they hung Gabriel Prosser and the rest of his group.
slavery as a growing issue between north and south
South started becoming lazier because where there are slaves no one likes to work.
The american Colonization Society
founded because slavery became a bigger problem in america. Was made to assist blacks to emigrating to africa.
Missouri Compromise and Crisis
people started signing petitions to abolish slavery so the compromise prohibited slavery north of the missouri compromise line.
Second Great Awakening
religious revival in the United States. made the United States genuinely Christian Society.
Effects on Congregation and Denominations
unlike the first great awakening they spread hundreds of missionaries to the west and distributed thousands of religious pamphlets.
Effects on Women
allowed women to demonstrate their piety to find new sects.
