Munn v Illinois
supreme court said states could regulate key businesses, but they also feared that too may states local regulations would mess with the national marketplace.
Homestead Act
gave 60 acres of federal land to any applicant who occupies and improved the property, they hoped this would help build up the interior of the west.
Morrill Act
set aside 140 million ares of land to sell to raise money for public universities know as land grant colleges so they could keep the west educated.
Sand Creek
the United States realized that the Cheyennes had a vast majority of land that had a lot f resources. the cheyenne chief feared of an attack so they settles in sand creek, but soon chivington colorado attacked and killed most women and children while the men were hunting and fishing.
Dawes Severalty Act
gave native americans ownership of land by dividing the reservations of homesteads, it was a disaster and in the end they lost up to 66% of lands held by indians.

Hunkpapa Lakota holy man who led his people as a tribal chief during years of resistance to United States government policies.
Colonel Cuser
led the 7th cavalry as part of 3- pronged effort to surround the indian and had led 210 men in an ill-considered assault on sitting bull’s camp
Little Big Horn
began an american cavary under Custer who attacked the indians (sioux, arapaho, cheyenne) who resisted removal.
Ghost dance movement
fostered native peoples hope that they could through sacred dances resurrect the bison and call a great storm to drive whites back to the atlantic.
battle of wounded knee
the 7th cavalry caught up with the lakotas and killed at least 150-300.
Women’s national indian association
a group of abolitionist created this. reformers argued that the natives had an innate capacity to become equal with whites but only if the indians converted to christianity and white ways.
