Chapter 5 Part 2 Flashcards
Controls the movement of the trunk muscles
Anterior corticospinal tract
What are the 2 indirect motor tracts of the spinal cord?
Rubrospinal, lateral vestibulospinal
Modulates flexor tone
Rubrospinal
Ipsilateral input for extensor tone
Lateral vestibulospinal
Motor tract in the spinal cord that pulls information from different places in the brain
Indirect motor tract
What are the 3 major sensory tracts of the spinal cord?
Dorsal columns, spinothalamic, spinocerebellar
Sensory tract in charge of proprioception
Spinocerebellar
Sensory tract in charge of pain, temperature, crude touch
Spinothalamic
Sensory tract in charge of fine touch, pressure, proprioception (brainstem, thalamus, and cortex involved)
Dorsal columns
Where are reflexes registered in?
Spinal cord
Lightning fast response to spinal nerve stimuli that is registered in the spinal cord instead of the brain; information goes to the brain BUT the motor response happens first
Reflex
Caused by trauma specifically 40% by car accidents, (80% males) football injuries, falls, etc. Can result in plegia or paresis
Spinal cord injury
Deficit in the closing of the inferior neural tube. Can cause bowel and bladder issues
Spina bifida
Inflammation of the spinal cord caused by viruses, meningitis ; can affect motor, sensory, or both.
Myelitis
Inflammation of the PNS and spinal nerves degenerate; often starts in toes often caused by diabetes or lack of blood flow. Results in paresthesia and/or no feeling
Peripheral neuropathy
