Chapter 11 Part 4 Flashcards
Thoughts, feelings and ideas help us determine what to say. The prefrontal cortex and limbic system are 2 areas of importance.
Conceptual
Linguistic and Motor plans are made. The premotor area is important here
Planning
These programs are responsible for the execution of phonemes. The basal ganglia, cerebellum and SMA are all important here
Motor programming
The basal ganglia and cerebellum coordinate and regulate movements so they are smoothly carried out
Motor control circuits
3 tracts are responsible for gross voluntary movement. We’re most interested in the corticobulbar tract (this path goes from the cortex to the brainstem (UMNs) then to the Cranial Nerves (LMNs)
Direct motor pathways
Where are upper motor neurons located?
CNS
Where are lower motor neurons located?
PNS
Motor pathway in charge of involuntary movement, ipsilateral, stops off at cerebellum, thalamus, basal ganglia
Indirect motor pathway
Signal meets LMN then muscle at the neuro-muscular junction
Final motor pathway
System that functions feedback to make changes
Sensory system
What are 2 important parts of the brain in the indirect motor system?
Basal ganglia and cerebellum
What 2 parts of the brain are considered in motor control and the indirect motor system?
Basal ganglia and cerebellum
Tracts help control involuntary movements of posture, muscle tone, and reflexes
Indirect motor system
What are some stops in the indirect motor system?
Cerebellum, thalamus, basal ganglia
Where does the indirect motor system decussate?
None
