Q

What is the difference between visual interface designer and visual information designer

A

Visual interface designer focus more on organizational aspects of design and the way in which affordances communicate behavior to users. They match the visual structure of interface to logical structure of both the user’s and program’s behavior. Whereas visual information designers focus more on content and navigation

Q

What are non-entertainment interface

A
  • Simple geometric space
  • Minimal contours
  • Less-saturated color
  • Minimum typography: 1 or 2 typefaces
  • Similar design elements used for similar purpose should be similar in visual attributes

Q

What is leverage in design

A

Using elements in an interface for multiple related purposes. e.g. menu that show page label on interface and when clicked also opens it.

Q

What are 2 needs of a contrast

A
  • 1st need is provide visual contrast between active, manipulative elements of the interface and passive, non-manipulative elements.
  • 2nd need is provide contrast between different logical sets of active elements to better communicate their distinct functions.

16
Q

What are types of contrast

A

Dimensional, tonal and spatial contrast

17
Q

What is dimensional contrast

A

Use of dimension for contrast. e.g. 3D dimension

18
Q

What is visual affordance

A

Giving 3D dimension look

19
Q

What is tonal contrast

A

Hue, saturation, brightness used to distinguish controls from background or to group controls logically.

20
Q

What is spatial contrast

A

Spatial contrast may be by

  • Position (related elements together spatially helps make clear to the user what tasks relate to each other, grouping)
  • Shape
  • Size
  • Orientation
21
Q

What is layering

A

Interface can be organized by layering visual cues in individual elements or in the background on which the active elements rest.

22
Q

What are visual attributes affecting perception of layers

A
  • Color (black colors look going backside and white color looks coming in front)
  • Size (large elements advance and small elements recede)
23
Q

What is squint test

A

It helps to evaluate the contrast of interface.
It has 2 methods. One is close one eye and check the elements on interface. The elements with more visibility have better contrast. Second method is check the interface in mirror.
