Chapter 25 Flashcards
What are types of guidance
- Principles
- Guidelines
- Rules
- Standards
- Patterns
- Imperatives
What is principle
A very broad statement that is usually based on research about how people learn and work
What are design principles
Guidelines for design of useful and usable form and behavior.
What is the benefit of design principles
User put less work and less time
What kind of work is minimized
- Logical work
- Perceptual work
- Mnemonic work
- Physical/motor work
What is logical work
Logical work is comprehension of text and organizational structure.
What is perceptual work
Decoding visual layouts and semantics of shape, size, color and representation.
What is mnemonic work
Recall of passwords, command vectors, names and locations of data objects, and other relationship between objects.
What is physical/motor work
Number of keystrokes, degree of mouse movement, use of gestures, switching between input modes, extent of required navigation.
What are 3 levels of operations of design principles
- Conceptual level
- Interaction level
- Interface level
What is conceptual level
It help define what a product is and how it fits into the board context of use by the primary personas.
What is interaction level
It defines how a product should behave in general and in specific situations.
What is interface level
It help defines the look and feel of interfaces (watching on the screen).
Does principles cross-plate form
Yes (e.g. windows based design principles can generally be applied on mac too.)
What is difference between design principle, usability principles and heuristic principles
Design principles and usability principles are same. When design principles are used for access and evaluation of product, they are called heuristic principles. When they are used for design then they are called design principles.
