Cystitis is common in
Females, due to a shorter urethra
-33% honey moon cystitis
Symptoms of cystitis
Dysuria (dysfunctional urination)
Pyura (pus and WBC in urine)
Treatment for cystitis
Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole or quinolones
-if not treated develops into pyelonephritis
Pyelonephritis is what? Caused by?
Inflammation of one or both kidneys
-untreated cystitis
Symptoms of pyelonephritis
Severe pelvic pain, fever, chills, nausea, tenderness in back, sweating, scarring of tissue, kidney failure
Treatment for pyelonephritis
Cephalosporin
Gonorrhea is caused by
Neisseria gonorrhea
Gonorrhea causes, chance and factors
-painful urination, irritation
-90% chance (very contagious)
-capsule and fimbraie
Gonorrhea in males vs females
Males- external, the drip pus discharge, can go into testes, proctitis (anal gonorrhea)
Female- internal, burning sensation, can become PID
Oral form vs congenital form of gonorrhea
Oral- oral sex, pus
Congenital- through birth canal, severe eye infection in newborn
What is pelvic inflammatory disease?
-affects the ovaries
-may cause ectopic pregnancy
-sterility
