What is a Burns?
- injury to tissue due to heat, chemical, electric shock, lightning, or radiation.
What is First Degree?
What is another name for First Degree Burns?
- A superficial burn is usually red and turns white if you press on it.
- Only the top layer of skin is damaged

What is Second Degree Burns?
What is another name for it?
- These burns involve the top layer of skin and a portion of the second layer of skin.
- Partial thickness burns are often broken down into two types:
- Superficial partial-thickness burns and deep partial-thickness burns
What is Superficial Partial-Thickness Burns?
What is another name for this Burns?
- Cause blistering and are painful.
- They typically heal within three weeks with minimal scarring

What is Deep Partial-Thickness Burns?

- Are dry and may appear ivory or pearly white
- They take longer to heal and usually produce some scarring.
- Skin grafts are usually recommended for these types of burns

- burns destroy the first and second layers of the skin
- Full Thickness Burns
What is the appearances like for Third Degree or Full Thickness Burns?
- They are dry, with a dark brown appearance
How is Third Degree or Full Thickness Burns treated?
- Best treated with early removal of the dead tissue, skin grafting and long-term use of compression therapy to minimize scarring
What is Impetigo?
Where is Impetigo usually on the body?
- Contagious pyoderma caused by staph or strep
- Usually on the face like lip
What is Psoriasis?
Examples of where Psoriasis is on the body?
- Chronic recurrent dermatosis with silver gray scales that itch, dry patches
- Can be anywhere like the knee, elbows, scalp and lower back.
What is Scabies?
- parasitic (tiny mites) and infectious pruritus(itching)
- It’s contagious
What is Scleroderma?
- chronic and progressive disease of the skin with hardening of connective tissue

- an inflammatory disease of collagen in the skin, joints, and internal organs
