What is Anthracosis?
– coal dust accumulation in the lungs
What is Asbestosis?
– asbestos accumulation in the lungs
What is Bacilli?
– rod-shaped bacteria
What is Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)?
– chronic condition of persistent obstruction of air flow through the lungs, COPD caused by smoking, air pollution, chronic infections, asthma
What is Cor pulmonale?
– failure of the right side of the heart to pump a sufficient amount of blood to the lungs because of an underlined lung disease.
What is Exudate?
– fluid, cells and pus that filter from the cells or capillaries and ooze into lesions or areas of inflammation
What is Infiltrate?
– collection of fluid or other material with the lungs
What is Palliative?
– relieving symptoms but not curing the disease
What is Paroxysmal?
– pertaining to sudden occurrence, such as a spasm or seizure
What is Pulmonary infarction?
– area a necrosis (death of lung tissue)
What is Purulent?
– containing pus
What is Silicosis?
– disease due to silica or glass dust in the lungs, occurs in mining occupations.
