What is Laryngoscopy?
– visual examination of the voice box
What is Lung biopsy?
- removal of lung tissue followed by a microscopic examination
What is Mediastinoscopy?
– endoscopic visual examination of the mediastinum
What is Pulmonary function tests (PFTs)?
– a test that measures the mechanics of the lungs, the airway function, lung volume and the capacity of the lungs to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide
What is Tuberculin test (TB)?
– determines past and present tuberculous exposure on a positive skin test
What is Tube thoracostomy?
– flexible, plastic chest tube is passed into the pleural space through an opening in the chest to remove air, fluid blood or pus
What is Bronchoscopy?
- fiber optic or rigid endoscope inserted into the bronchial tubes for diagnosis, biopsy, or collection of secretions
What is Endotracheal intubation?
- placement of tube from mouth to trachea to establish airway
What is Thoracentesis?
- surgical puncture to remove fluid from pleural space
What is Tracheostomy?
- surgical creation of an opening into the trachea through the neck
