chapter 14 final Flashcards
What are the main
functions of the olfactory, optic, vestibulocochlear and vagus nerve?
olfactory= sense of smell
optic= vision
vestibulocochlear= hearing and balance
vagus nerve= supplies all important organs like heart
What are the four types of waves?
alpha waves
beta waves
theta waves
delta waves (high amplitude, slow waves)
What is electroencephalogram?
wave patterns
What is aphasia?
lesions in the hemisphere with the Broca and Wernicke,
loss of language
What is the function of the Broca and Wernicke area?
Broca and Wernicke areas are the language areas.
Broca= for motor language (speaks sentences).
Wernice area= for sensory language
What is agnosia,
prosopagnosia?
agnosia= inability to recognize, identify, and name familiar objects
Prosopagnosia =cant identify themselves or people close to them
What are anterograde and retrograde amnesia?
anterograde= not able to store new information
Retrograde amnesia – a person would forget what would happen during an injury ( retro = past)
What is contralateral neglect syndrome, lesion to which
lobe causes this syndrome?
Contralateral neglect syndrome is when a person neglects one half of the body (shaving only one side of face)
(parietal lobe)
What
is narcolepsy (know the cause)?
Narcolepsy is when someone falls asleep during any time of the day, caused by lack of neural coctide
what are the main parts of the limbic system?
What are the functions of: lobes of cerebrum, cerebellum, thalamus, hypothalamus,
reticular formation, and limbic system?
Temporal lobe( hearing)
parietal lobe (general sensory some vision),
cerebellum (motor skills)
thalamus (gets messages from the spinal cord)
the hypothalamus (regulates the endocrine system)
gratification centers help us feel happy,
aversion centers (feel sad)
What types of cells are present in the cerebral
cortex?
stellate cell (no axons)
pyramidal cells (long axons carry messages to effector cells)
What are the functions of CSF?
functions= protects brain from connection, removes metabolic waist
What is
meningitis?
meningitis= indicates inflammation of menginges
What is falx cerebri?
