Human error
A disciplinary action in which a fire fighter is transferred or assigned to a less desirable or different work location or assignment
Involuntary transfer or detail
A change in focus from errors and outcomes to systems design and management of behavioral choices of all employees

Recency
A behavioral choice to consciously disregard a substantial and unjustified risk
Reckless behavior
Temporary work assignment during an administrative investigation that isolates the fire fighter from the public; this is usually an administrative assignment away from the fire station
Restrictive duty
Identification and analysis of exposure to hazards, selection of appropriate techniques to control exposures, implementation of chosen techniques, and monitoring of results to ensure the health and safety of members
Risk management
Designated period of time when an employee is provided additional training to resolve a work performance/ behavior issue. The supervisor issues an evaluation at the end of the period
Special evaluation period
