List what is involved

A

The demographic, socioeconomic and cultural characteristics of a place (Burpham), how this shapes a place because then you contrast it to another place (Brentford)
recall three facts from each characteristics you need to mention when comparing B&B

There are several factors that shape the shifting flows of money, resources and ideas
Then how these are affected at different scales
local- level of connectivity
national- Migration (UK nationality act 1948 and wind rush)
Global- Globalisation (MNCs- fast food chains e.g. McDonalds)

List what is involved

A

Meaning, representation, media vd statistics, places meanings effect the nature of a place, how meanings and attachment affect people and you

Meaning of a place includes people’s perception, engagement and attachment
(membership and influence) -sense of belonging and being part of a place
1. Places meanings have an effect on continuity and nature of a place
e.g. Guildford vs Jaywick
give two facts about each and how they contrast
2. Meanings and attachments affected people’s lives e.g. the media can make you have an opinion on a place before you even go there

Representation- a place can be viewed positively or negatively even when never been= because of media
1. How media portrays a place e.g. Liverpool skyline in contrast to the crime rates ect mentioned in media
2. Contrasting images can be portrayed due to formal statistics and then media and popular images of places - e.g. Cornwall idyllic media and tourist advertisement slogans in contrast to formal stats- being most deprived area with highest levels of unemployment in the country
