C/17 Glycopeptides, Fusidans, Lipopeptides, Bacitracin, Mupirocin Flashcards
Vancomycin
Glycopeptide AB
MRSA, Enterococcus
Teicoplanin
Glycopeptide AB
Same indications as vancomycin
Ototoxicity
Oritavancin
Glycopeptide AB
Bacitracin
Inhibits cell wall biosynthesus (peptidoglycan subunit transfer),
Gram pos
Nephrotoxic
Only topical application
Daptomycin
Lipopeptide
Incorporated into cell membrane —> depol —> cell death
Polyresistant gram pos cocci
Myopathy, CK elevation
Inactivated by surfactant, so don’t use in pneumonia
Fusidic acid
Fusidan. Inhibits protein synthesis
Gram pos bacteria. Severe staph infections, inkl. MRSA, corynebacterium endocarditis, combo with other ABs to prevent resistance
Nausea, vomiting, liver, icterus
Mupirocin
Binds to isoleucyl tRNA synthetase, resulting in inhibition of protein synthesis
Gram pos cocci
Topical treatment of bacterial skin infections, including MRSA
