BIO125 - 12SpinalNerves Flashcards
- brachial plexus
- SB: skin on shoulder and superior posterior arm
- MB: shoulder (ex deltoid and teres major)
axillary
- cervical plexus
- sensory branches: diaphragm, pleura and pericardium
- motor branches: diaphragm (need for breathing/respiration)
phrenic plexus
brachial plexus
- SB: posterolateral skin of entire limb (except dorsum of digits 2 and 3)
- MB: forearm, wrist, and finger extensors (ex triceps brachii, extensor carpi radialis, and ulnaris, supinator)
radial
brachial plexus ( runs along midline of arm on medial surface)
- SB: lateral 2/3 of palm and dorsum of tips of digits 1-4
- MB: wrist and finger flexors (ex: flexor carpi radialis, flexor digitorum, pronator muscles)
median
brachial plexus
- SB: medial 1/3 of hand on both sides
- MB: most muscles of the hand; wrist and finger flexors (ex: flexor carpi ulnaris,, flexor digitorum profundus)
ulnar
brachial plexus
- SB: skin on anterolateral forearm
- MB: forearm flexors (ex: biceps brachii and brachialis)
musculocutaneous
lumbar branch
- SB: skin on anteromedial thigh and medial led and foot
- MB: anterior thigh (ex: quadriceps femoris, sartorius, iliacus)
femoral
lumbar plexus
- SB: skin on medial thigh
- MB: adductor muscles and gracilis
obturator
lumbar plexus
- SB: skin on anterior and upper lateral thigh
- MB: none
lateral femoral cutaneous
sacral plexus
- SB: skin on posterior leg and sole of foot
- MB: posterior leg, thigh and most foot muscles (e: calf and hamstring muscles, tibialis posterior, toe flexors)
tibial
sacral plexus
- SB: skin on anterior distal leg and dorsum of foot and toes
- MB: anterior and lateral leg muscles; toe extensors (ex: fibularis muscles, tibialis anterior)
common fibular
sacral plexus
- SB: skin on buttock, posterior thigh, and popliteal region
- MB: none
posterior femoral cutaneous
there are \_\_ pairs of spinal nerves that branch off: cervical thoracic lumbar saccral coccygeal
C=8 T=12 L=5 S=5 C=1
Intercostal nerves A.K.A
thoracic nerves
Lumbar plexus:
L1-L4 (4)
Sacral plexus:
L4-S4 (6)
Dorsal ramus serves:
(sensory) posterior trunk
ventral ramus serves:
(motor) anterior and lateral trunk and limbs
all rami are sensory or motor?
MIXED!
- from ventral rami of T2-T12
- serve anterior and lateral trunk
intercostal nerves
- NETWORKS
- from ventral rami ABOVE T2 and BELOW T12
plexuses
- from plexuses
- are ALL MIXED
- serve limbs and appendages
peripheral nerves
- from C1-C5
- Serves shoulder and neck muscles
cervical
- from C5-T1
- Serves shoulder and arm
brachial plexus
- passes through sciatic notch
- largest lumbar nerve
- composed of two nerves: ?
sciatic nerve
- tibial
- common fibular
