B2- ventilation + plants Flashcards
How do you work out cardiac output?
CO (cm3/min) = SV (cm3) x HR(bpm)
cardiac output= stroke volume x heart beat per minute
What is ventilation?
breathing in + out
What is inhalation?
air in, ribcage moves inwards and upwards. The Diaphragm is relaxed (CURVED)
What is exhalation?
Breathing out, ribcage moves outwards and downwards. The diaphragm contracts (STRAIGHT LINE)
What is transpiration?
water moving from roots to leaves (UP THE PLANT) occurs in xylem
what is translocation
Transportation of food substances up and down the plant
How to increase transpiration?
-increase TEMPARTURE
-increase LIGHT INTENSITY
-increase AIR MOVEMENT
-increase HUMIDITY
How is cancer caused?
Uncontrolled cell growth and division
