What is a non-communicable disease?
a disease that cannot spread between organisms
Risk factors that can affect health
-diet
-stress
-life situation (eg: if you have access to medicine)
-lifestyle (eg: how much excercise someone does)
-environment (eg: air pollution)
-genetics
What is cancer?
uncontrolled cell growth and division
What is a benign tumor?
-tumor grows and usually stays within a membrane rather than invading other tissues
-normally not dangerous or cancerous
What is a malignant tumor?
-tumor grows and spreads, invading healthy tissues and forming secondary tumors
-dangerous (can be fatal) and cancerous
Risk factors of cancers
-smoking (linked to: lung cancer, mouth cancer, bowel cancer, stomach cancer, cervical cancer)
-obesity (linked to: bowel cancer, liver cancer, kidney cancer)
-UV exposure (linked to: skin cancer)
-Viral infection (linked to: liver cancer (infection with hepatitis B and hepatitis C))
-genetics
