Trying to find the North West Passage, he met the Iroquois, claimed what he found for France, then kidnapped the chief’s two sons and took them back to France
What did Cartier find on his second trip?
He used the two Iroquois chief’s sons to navigate up the Saint Lawrence river, where he got to Stadacona (present day Quebec City) and Hochelaga (present day Montreal)
What happened once they tried to winter in the new land?
they got scurvy (lack of vitamin c) and the native people helped them to use spruce needles to make tea. Then Cartier kidnaps 9 other Iroquois and takes them back to France where they all die

He thought he found diamonds and gold, but it was just fools gold ( iron pyrite) and quartz
