MOA?
A
blocks angiotensin II from binding at the receptor

Physiological effects of blocking angiotensin II? (not adverse effects)
A
- dilation of arterioles and veins
- prevents pathologic changes in cardiac structure (remodeling)
- decreases release of aldosterone
- does not inhibit kinase II

Indications?
A
HTN, HF, MI, diabetic nephropathy, protect against MI, stroke, and death from CV causes in high risk patients.

Q
Adverse effects?
A
angioedema, fetal harm, renal failure (d/t renal stenosis)
-Does not cause hyperkalemia or cough

Q
Who should not take this medication?
A
pregnant and pts with renal artery stenosis

Q
How are these medications taken?
A
PO with or without food
