Antibiotics Flashcards
1
Q
Puromycin
A
Mimicks tRNA. Binds to the A site in prokaryotes. 23s is the peptidyl transferase. It transfers puromycin to the growing peptide chains, takes the peptide chain away, and degrades the protein.
2
Q
Chloramphenicol
A
prokaryotes; effects peptidyl transferase activity by binding to the A site. (example oxazolidones “synthetic”; Linzezolid)
3
Q
Diptheria toxin
A
eukaryotes; NAD+ dependent ADP ribosylase; binds to eEF-2, which can bind GTP, but cannot undergo hydrolysis halting elongation
4
Q
Ricin
A
eukaryotes; disrupts 28S ribosomal subunit, removes adenine preventing tRNA function, cannot undergo GTP hydrolysis; interrupts GTP hydrolysis
