Anatomy of joints and ligaments (the hindlimb) Flashcards
Where is the sacroilliac joint?
between the wings of the illium and sacrum
What does the sacrotuberous ligament join together?
the sacral/caudal vertebrae and the ischiatic tuberosity
What is the pelvic symphysis?
a fibrocartilaginous joint between two coxae
What is the coxofemoral/hip joint?
Between the head of the femur and the acetabulum of the pelvis, it is a ball and socket joint
What does the stability of the hip joint rely on?
Not collateral ligaments it relies on the ligament on the head of the femur
What two joints are part of the knee/stifle joint?
femoropatellar and tibiofemoral
What is the femoropatellar joint?
Between the patellar and trochlea of the femur
What is the tibiofemoral joint?
Between the femoral condyles and the tibia
What kind of joint is in the tibiofemoral joint?
A condylar joint that acts as a hinge
What is the stifle joint?
Semilunar cartilages sit between the femoral condyles and tibia
What stabilises the tibiofemoral joint?
collateral ligaments
What is the tibiofibular joint?
Found between the lateral condyle of the tibia and the head of the fibula
What is the tarsocrural joint?
Between the proximal tarsal bones and the tibia/ fibula
What is the proximal intertarsal joint?
Between the proximal and central and fourth tarsal bone
What is the distal intertarsal joint?
Between the central tarsal and tarsal bones I, II and III
