Q

What is the social learning theory of aggression? Give an example

A

Proposes that aggression is learnt via environment, imitation of significant others -> imitation is more likely if significant other is in position of authority (captain) or same gender etc…

E.g. a young footballer sees their captain pushing a player off the ball, fellow teammates congratulate her and aggressive behaviour becomes permanent

Q

What is the frustration aggression theory of aggression? Give examples

A

When goal directed behaviour is blocked which leads to frustration

If frustration can be released this is known as catharsis e.g. a footballer manages to push marker out of the way when ref is not looking. If frustration cannot be released or player is punished, aggression will continue to rise -> e.g. a footballer is caught pushing player, gets sent off and throws water bottle into dugout
