Advanced Topics Lecture Flashcards
1
Q
Margin of Safety
A
ratio of the dose that is just within the toxic range (TD01) to the dose that is 99% effective (ED99)
MOS = TD01/ED99
Typically 10x
2
Q
Estimates based on POD
A
The reference dose (RfD), acceptable daily intake (ADI), tolerable daily intake (TDI), permitted daily exposure (PDE), and derived no effect level (DNEL) are all regulatory values indicating a risk-based acceptable level of exposure.
They are derived from a point of departure (POD), which may be a NOAEL, LOAEL, or BMD(L), and various assessment/ uncertainty/safety factors (different names applied to equivalent factors in different regulatory schemes).
3
Q
Therapeutic Index
A
Compare the toxic dose to the therapeutically effective dose
TD50/ED50
4
Q
Margin of Exposure
A
for chemicals with no benefit
MOE = NOAEL/Human exposure
5
Q
MABEL
A
Minimally Anticipated Biologically Effective Level
