Acne Flashcards
Adapalene
Topical retinoid
Modulate cell proliferation and differentiation and decrease inflammation; in acne, formation of new comedones and inflammatory lesions is decreased.
Tretinoin
Topical retinoid
Modulate cell proliferation and differentiation and decrease inflammation; in acne, formation of new comedones and inflammatory lesions is decreased.
Trifarotene
Topical retinoid
Modulate cell proliferation and differentiation and decrease inflammation; in acne, formation of new comedones and inflammatory lesions is decreased.
Acitretin
Oral retinoid
Reverses the epidermal proliferation and increased keratinisation seen in hyperkeratotic disorders.
Isotretinoin
Oral retinoid
Modulates cell proliferation and differentiation. Reduces sebum excretion, Cutibacterium (Propionibacterium) acnes numbers, inflammation and cyst formation.
Azelaic acid
Inhibits growth of Cutibacterium (Propionibacterium) acnes and reduces follicular keratinisation.
Benzyl peroxide
Antibacterial action probably due to oxidising effect; mild keratolytic properties.
Clindamyacin
Lincosamide antibacterial
inhibits growth of Cutibacterium (Propionibacterium) acnes.
