Chemical messengers carried in the blood which regulate many different important bodily functions.

What is the location and function of adrenaline?
Location is adrenal glands and function is regulates short term stress response
What is the location and function of cortisol?
Located in the adrenal glands and regulates long term stress response, mood, and metabolism.
What is the location and function of insulin?
Located in the pancreas and reduces blood glucose levels
What is the location and function of glucagon?
Located in the pancreas and increases blood glucose levels
What is the location and function of thyroid stimulating hormone?
Located in the pituitary gland and stimulates thyroid to release thyroxine.
What is the location and function of follicle stimulating hormone?
Located in the pituitary gland and triggers the maturation of egg follicles in the ovaries
What is the location and function of thyroxin?
Located in the thyroid and regulates and sustains metabolism.
What is a gland?
Any structure that makes and secretes hormones.
What is the location and function of the hypothalamus?
Located in the brain and is responsible for maintaining homeostasis.
What is the location and function of the pituitary gland?
Also found in the brain, known as the ‘master gland’ as it secretes hormones which regulate other glands to make hormones
What is the location and function of the thyroid gland?
Found in the neck and produces thyroxine which regulates the body’s metabolism and can effect body weight etc.
What is the location and function of the adrenal glands?
2 adrenal glands which are located at the top of each kidney which triggers the fight or flight response and helps to keep you alert.
What is the location and function of the pancreas?
Contains islet cells produced two main hormones which are vital- insulin and glucagon.
