2.4 Cellular Respiration Flashcards
What is respiration?
A chemical reaction that happens in all living cells. Its the release of energy from glucose so that all other chemical processes needed for life can happen.
What is Adenosine triphosphate (ATP)?
A molecule that carries energy within cells.
Where does the process of creating ATP take place and what is it known as?
it takes place in the cells and is known as respiration.
What is the aerobic formula?
Glucose + oxygen = ATP + CO2 + Water
Does aerobic release more or less energy than anaerobic?
More energy, but more slowly.
What is the Krebs cycle?
Series of chemical reactions that take place in the mitochondria in the cell
Why does it use oxygen?
Because it produces co2 and water as waste products, to synthesize ATP.
What is anaerobic respiration?
When glucose is converted into APT without the use of oxygen.
What is the result of glucose being converted into APT without oxygen?
Lactic acid is produced to supplement energy for a short amount of time.
How to you get rid of lactic acid?
Continue to breathe deeply after exercise so you cab break it down using more oxygen.
