3.3.4 Critical path analysis 👣 Flashcards
What is critical path analysis 🧐 ?
It is a project management tool that uses network analysis used to plan complex and time sensitive project
What are the four purposes of a critical path analysis
efficiency - shows what Tasks can be carried out at the same time -Helps a production or instalment time
decision-making - Estimating how long project will take will help meet deadlines quickly
and implications of delays are assessed
Time based management- -Minimise the length of time spent on business processes - Identify tasks that need to be done in order
working capital control - Identify what resources will be required for the project and when we need to order them
Describe a node
On the left-hand side we have number of the day
on the top is the EST early starting time
on the bottom is the LFT latest finishing time
On top of the link is the letter of the activity and on the bottom is the duration
If the link has two slashes in it that means it is a critical path and we have to take it first

How do we calculate the next EST for the next node?
What happens if We have two strands at the same time?
We add the EST and duration up and put it where the next EST for the next day is
If you have two at the same time you use the highest duration and add that up with the previous EST
What are the four limitations of critical path analysis and the explanation ?
Very lengthy projects involve large number of activities that numerous dependencies -
Maybe the specialist planning software layers of supervision required - computer 🖥 may simply this
Network analysis such as CPA relies on estimates and forecasts-Significant research is required and a close relationship between suppliers are essential
Network analysis does not guarantee success on the project - project managers have to be highly skilled - experience
Resources may not be as flexible as hoped - employees may require additional training in order to transfer to critical tasks
machinery and other capital resources may require adaptation

How do we calculate LFT ?
Right to left - LFT - duration
But in next LFT
Start with last node
How We calculate float time?
LFT - duration - Est
