3.2-3.3 Science and Challenges in Studying Earth Flashcards
Experimental science
A process that tests hypotheses by conducting planned, repeatable, well-controlled experiments.
Historical science
An investigation about events that happened in the past. These events can be modeled in a laboratory or on a computer, but cannot be repeated.
Controlled experiment
An experiment in which all variables are kept constant except for the one variable that is the focus of the experiment.
Scalability
The ability of processes in a scale model to work in the same way as processes do in nature.
Accessibility
The ease or difficulty of getting to a place in order to study it.
Complexity
The state of having many different things happening at one place or at one time.
