Cirrus
Thin, wispy, high-level clouds.
Cirrocumulus
Small, puffy, high-level clouds that may appear as single clouds or in long rows.
Cirrostratus
Thin, high-level clouds that often cover the entire sky.
Altocumulus
Gray, puffy, mid-level clouds that may form waves or bands across the sky.
Altostratus
Thin, gray, mid-level layer of clouds that often covers the entire sky. The sun is faintly visible through altostratus clouds.
Nimbostratus
Dark gray, low-level cloud layers associated with continuous rain or snow.
Stratocumulus
Low-level clouds characterized by large dark, rounded masses, often in groups, lines, or waves.
Stratus
A uniform, gray, low-level cloud that typically covers the whole sky but does not produce much precipitation.
Cumulus
A puffy, low-level cloud that usually forms as individual, domed, cottony masses with plenty of blue sky between clouds.
Cumulonimbus
A thunderstorm cloud. Cumulonimbus clouds are characterized by extensive vertical development caused by strong updrafts.
