Dissociative Identity Disorder
Existence of two or more distinct personality states
or
Recurrent memory gaps for ordinary events, personal information, or traumatic events
*Not consistent with ordinary forgetfulness
Dissociative Amnesia:
Overview
Related to exposure to one or more traumatic events
Inability to recall important personal information that cannot be attributed to ordinary forgetfulnes
Five types of dissociative amnesia
Localized amnesia
Selective amnesia
Generalized amnesia
Continuous amnesia
Systematized amnesia
Localized amnesia
Inability to remember ALL events related to a specific period of time
Selective amnesia
Inability to remember SOME events related to a specific period of time
Generalized amnesia
Loss of memory that encompasses the person’s entire life
Continuous amnesia
Inability to recall events subsequent to a specific time up through the present
Systematized amnesia
Inability to recall memories related to a certain category of information
E.g. memories related to a person’s spouse
Dissociative Amnesia:

With or without dissociative fugue
Dissociative fugue
Apparently purposeful travel with an inability to recall some or all of one’s past
Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder:
Overview
Recurrent episodes of either DP or DR
*Reality testing remains intact
Depersonalization
A sense of unreality, detachment, or being an outside observer of one’s thoughts, feelings etc.
Derealization
A sense of unreality or detachment involving one’s surroundings
