Natural law
Based on the theological belief that God created and designed the world, giving purpose to everything.
All things have a natural purpose.
Achieving Gods given purpose equates to flourishing.

Aq saw that humans were set apart from animals due to our reason, allowing us to know Gods eternal law.
Giving us a more creative and fulfilled existence.
We experience Gs eternal law through our self evident principle, do good avoid evil.
Heteronomous Christian Ethics
Ethics governed by several sources of authority or law.
Theonomous Christian Ethics
Ethics governed by Gods law or commands.
Living a good life must be revealed by God.
Biblicism
Belief that the bible is the revealed word of god, that the writer were directly inspired by God.
Preferred to the term fundamentalism due to its negative connotations.
“All scripture is inspired by God,..
And is useful for teaching , for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness”
2 Timothy 3:16
Aims to show that every part of the bible is useful.
Covenant
Gods special promises made with humans which requires special behaviour from them.
Contradictions within Literalism
‘An eye for an eye, a tooth for as tooth’ Exodus 21:24
Capital punishment apparent for blasphemy, dishonouring parents, and adultery.
All in Old Testament.
Karl Barth on divine status?
Give divines status only to God.
The bible and other pieces are only inspired by him and are a slippery slope.
Papal Encyclical
Latter issued by the pope to his senior clergy on some significant topic or teaching.
Has doctrinal authority.
Is literalism too realistic?
Karl Barth - It is dangerous.
Bible shouldn’t get divine status.
Gospels are witness accounts to gods word - not gods word.
Bible must be read alongside human reason.
