Promoting the ‘well-being’ of the greatest number is imp.
Eg Health Care provided for the population, making ppl healthier and therefore happier.
Pref util: Other Interests at heart
The principle of “standing in someone else shoes” is valued, keeping the preferences of others in mind.
Impartiality
Util requires equal rights for all.
There is no favourites of biases.
Secular
Doesn’t need religion to work.
Therefore attractive to Secular minded people.
Maximizing Happiness as an Aim
Maximizing happiness is a good intended aim.
Hard to counter.
Progressive
The Morality of Util causes change.
Eg Homosexual acts and Oppression of women challenged by Util thinkers.
Modern utils i.e. P.Singer stands for animal rights and the poor.
Demorcratic
Everyones happiness is treated alike, and taken into account.
