Wound Healing/tissue repair and chronic inflammation Flashcards
What are Labile cells?
divide and proliferate throughout life
e.g corneal epithelium by corneal stem cells in the limbus.
what are stable cells?
divide at a slow rate but when stimulated by growth factors, they significantly increase heir replication rate and divide more rapidly
what are permanent cells?
cells cannot divide, cannot go through mitosis
may be capable of cellular repair if necrosis is not initiated.
what is proliferation?
cell division by mitosis
What is regeneration?
perfect restoration with no scar formation.
what is wound repair?
restores normal function and structure.
What are the causes of Chronic inflammation?
1) persistent infections
2) immune mediated:autoimmunity
3) prolonged exposure to toxin/foreign object
What are the 3 main features of chronic inflammation?
1) active inflammation;plasma cells and more antibodies.
2) Tissue destruction:induced by persistent injurious agent or by inflammatory cells.
3) attempts at repair or healing:connective tissue replacement of damaged tissue
