Cardiovascular Biology Flashcards
What are the 3 layers in which the heart is divided?
- myocardium
- endocardium
- epicardium
what does the pericardium release?
-pericardial fluid
where does the blood in the superior vena cava come from?
blood from head and neck
where does the blood from inferior vena cava come from?
blood from rest of the body.
where does the blood in the coronary sinus come from?
- blood from heart muscle
- deoxygenated blood into right atrium
what muscle keeps valves closed?
papillary muscles
what is valve regurgitation?
blood leaks
valves can’t open or shut
valve defects-stenosis?
- narrowing of valves
- not push out enough blood.
what 2 parts is the autonomic nervous system split into?
- parasympathetic (resting,digesting)
- sympathetic (fright and flight)
what is the difference between skeletal muscle fibres and cardiac fibres?
skeletal muscle fibres have several peripheral nuclei
