Hypersensitivity Flashcards
what is perenial?
present whole year round e.g dust mite
what is anaphylaxis?
dangerous type of allergic reaction which is created by particular foods (nuts);insect bites or medicines.
what is hypersensitivity?
exaggerated or inappropriate immune response that leads to damage.
what is type I hypersensitivity?
immediate
within minutes of exposure to a variety of enviromental antigens e.g pollen
what are phagocytes?
internalise antigens and pathogens and destroy them e.g monocytes and macrophages and polymorphonuclear neutrophils
what are the two main lymphocytes
- B-cells and T-cells are both specific recognition of antigen.
- B-cells are for the production of antibodies.
what is the role of type 1 T-helper cells?
-activate macrophages
what is the role of type 2 T-helper cells?
-help B-cells to divide and differentiate and make antibody.
what is the role of cytotoxic T cells?
destroy virally infected cells and tumour cells
what is the role of NK cells?
granular lymphocytes with similar properties to cytotoxic T-cells.
