What are the signs of anaemia?
A
- Tachycardia
- Pale MM
- lethargy
- ‘water hammer’ pulse
- weakness/ collapse

What is polychromasia?
A
presence of immature RBC’s in the blood stream

What does microcytic mean?
A
– small cells; low MCV
* Iron deficiency, portosystemic shunt, hyperthyroidism, Zn toxicity

What does macrocytic mean?
A
large cells; high MCV
* FeLV, B12/folate deficiency, neoplasia, immune mediated and hereditary disorders
* May be normal in miniature and toy poodles, but then no anaemia is present
